GAHBA Makes Donation to DeKalb CSB

The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) recently made a donation of $10,000 to the Brighter DeKalb Foundation. GAHBA President Jim Chapman of Jim Chapman Communities and GAHBA Board Member Barry Burney of Burney Homes presented the check to Dr. Joseph Bona of the DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB) during the GAHBA’s board meeting on Tuesday, October 23.

The Brighter DeKalb Foundation provides funding to the DeKalb CSB, which is a community-based not-for-profit organization that offers a full range of behavioral health and developmental disability services in the Atlanta area.

Since 1985, the GAHBA had owned and maintained a house on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road that was originally built for a family with a special needs child. In recent years, the DeKalb CSB had been renting the home to provide housing for individuals with developmental disabilities, with the GAHBA continuing to assist with repairs and maintenance. The house was recently sold, and the donation was made to help support the DeKalb CSB’s continued work providing mental health services to the community.

“The GAHBA has had a wonderful relationship and partnership with the DeKalb CSB. We are proud that our association was able to help support their mission through the use of the Chamblee-Dunwoody house,” said Chapman. “We also owe a debt of gratitude to Barry Burney for his hard work managing and maintaining the property over the years.”
