Get Involved in GAHBA Student Outreach Programs
With another school year beginning, it’s the perfect time for home builders to reconnect with student chapters, local schools and nonprofits to help prepare the next generation of construction professionals.
The National Association of Home Builders reports more than 245,000 open construction jobs as of May 2025, demonstrating the continued demand for skilled workers. By engaging students early and introducing them to the wide range of careers in residential construction, builders can play an active role in closing the workforce gap.
Ready to get involved? The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association currently works with two student chapters and an after-school Boys and Girls Club program.
Student Chapters
Students interested in the homebuilding industry can participate in GAHBA’s student chapters through Kennesaw State University and Atlanta Tech. The NAHB Student Chapter program provides hands-on experience for students enrolled in construction-related fields such as construction management, engineering, architecture, real estate and the trades. In addition to their studies, students can create connections with local builders and industry professionals that often lead to internships, job opportunities and professional mentorship. More information about GAHBA’s student chapters can be found here.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America offers a valuable avenue to introduce middle and high school students to residential construction through career exploration events, hands-on activities and other educational opportunities. Every year, NAHBA provides participating home builders’ associations with $2,500 to cover four events throughout the year.
In 2025, GAHBA celebrated its third year of hosting a Boys and Girls Club program, in partnership with NAHB. It launched in 2023 as one of NAHB’s pilot cities for the program and has quickly grown with the support of local members and the GAHBA Workforce Development Committee. This year’s program was led by Lennar Atlanta and members of the GAHBA Workforce Development Committee, walking students through the real-time development of a Lennar community and various elements of the building process. At the end of the program, students enjoyed a tour of the in-progress community they followed throughout the spring semester. Other activities included a field trip to Home Depot to discuss construction tools and equipment, installing a mock wall and higher education discussions with three technical colleges.

Careers in Construction Month
October is Careers in Construction Month! NAHB encourages all student members, local associations and industry professionals to make use of The Careers in Construction Month Toolkit, full of resources to help promote the trades, plan events and engage the next generation of home builders. By connecting with students, building partnerships and providing the tools they need to succeed, HBAs can help ensure the industry’s future is in capable hands.
