GAHBA Wraps Up Third Year of Annual Boys and Girls Club Program

Posted By: Thomas Touchstone Workforce Development,
The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) wrapped up the third annual Boys and Girls Club Program in April with the A. Worley Brown Club in Norcross, Georgia.

The program started in 2023 and stemmed from a national partnership between the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The GAHBA was chosen as one of 10 pilot cities to spearhead the program.

The goal of the program is to inform students about the many great opportunities that are available in residential construction in hopes of getting the next generation of workers more interested in home building.

This year's program was sponsored by Lennar Atlanta and Joe Ramos, who is one of the Construction Training Managers at the company, as well as members of the GAHBA Workforce Development Committee.
Over a dozen students learned about the entire home-building process from start to finish and received certificates for graduating from the program.

The program lasted for 10 sessions and had many highlights throughout. Aside from the many GAHBA members that led a session, the students also went on a field trip to Home Depot and participated in a drilling and driving demonstration with Milwaukee Tool, heard from three different technical colleges about their construction pathways, and visit a Lennar Homes development that was close to the club.
The students again got to get hands-on experiences with many different home-building aspects as we constructed another mock wall. The students got to practice masonry, carpentry, roofing, siding, plumbing, electrical, HVAC installation, house wrap installation, and window installation.
Thank you so much to Lennar Atlanta and the many GAHBA members who helped us with the program this year.
